Buying parts
Parts are sold by importers, shops and second-hand dealers. Whatever the source, give your VIN (17 characters, on the registration document or windscreen) so the seller can match the exact version of your car, and compare offers on brand, condition and warranty, not only price. Check your VIN with our free decoder.
Rain and humidity
- Brakes: check pads and discs regularly; wet brakes need a few gentle applications to dry.
- Tyres: enough tread to clear water; worn tyres lose grip fast on wet roads.
- Electrics: humidity attacks connectors and battery terminals; keep them clean.
- Floodwater: never drive in if you cannot see the road; water can be sucked into the engine.
Buying a used car
Check that the VIN on the papers matches the car, look for flood signs (musty smell, mud under carpets, rust on seat rails), start the engine cold, and have a mechanic inspect it before paying.
Road safety
Liberia’s road safety body is a secretariat in the process of becoming an authority; in 2023 a Liberian delegation studied Ghana’s road safety management. The basics save lives everywhere: seat-belts (up to 50% lower risk of death, WHO), helmets, lower speed, no phone and no alcohol at the wheel.
